A viral image containing what looks like an eerie spirit girl walking through the woods in Cambridge has been circulating on social media.
Cambridge residents and netizens became convinced that an image of an eerie spirit girl walking through the woods was evidence of paranormal activity.
Owners of a property off Route 74 in Washington County set up a trail camera to look out for trespassers and managed to capture an image that looks like the ghost of a little girl. The proprietor of the land, who wishes to remain anonymous, circulated the picture.
Their intention was to find out who the mysterious child trespasser could be. However, those who viewed the image felt convinced that he had in fact captured the image of a young ghost. Still, the owner took the picture to the police, as they remained skeptical.
President of the Greenwich Paranormal Research Team, Tania Woodward, said she was very keen to view the original footage. She felt that paranormal activity in the area was something she would expect, given the history present in the area. However, the picture didn’t provide enough information for Woodward, as trail cameras are notorious for creating bad quality images.
Woodward claims that the difficulty in obtaining certainty about whether or not the image is a little girls ghost would be overcome by Woodward actually taking her team to the property to do tests. She hoped that the owners would give her permission to come to their property to analyze the area.
There are several questions that Woodward has for the property owners
She wishes to ask where the camera was facing and what time of day the camera captured the footage. Additionally, she is interested to know about any children that live nearby. Also, do the owners have kids that could have been playing near the camera at that time? Photoshop would also have to be ruled out as a possibility.
Legend and reality
Many locals felt convinced that there was a connection between the eerie image and a tragedy that had occurred in the area sometime in the past. Train tracks once passed through the area that the property is located. Local legend tells of a girl who had died while playing on the tracks when a train hit her.
It is this historical death that had locals and netizens convinced that the image contains the ghost of this unfortunate child. So convinced in fact were many, that local police Chief George Bell receive many calls and emails from concerned mediums and psychics. These individuals wished to gain permission to enter the property to help the young girl’s lost soul “cross over.”
Nevertheless, skeptics persisted with seeking the reality behind the image
Chief Bell ultimately got a call from a concerned citizen who believed that it was his granddaughter. Initially the local businessman wished to remain anonymous, however, in small towns, this is obviously not possible.
The owner of Greenwich’s Willard Mountain Ski Resort, a Mr. Chic Wilson, finally came forward after a neighbor had taped a copy of the ghostly image to his front door. Immediately he recognized his granddaughter. Ultimately he was able to give his account to the police and put the story to rest.
