Reality TV has developed a well-deserved bad reputation.
Reality TV is like the junk food of show biz. You know it is bad for you but you want more. However, some ideas are just downright ridiculous.
It is as though television producers have no imaginations anymore. We have listed the absolute worst Reality TV shows that we can’t comprehend why it is on our screens. But you know you can’t look away!
Dating Naked – VH1
You know it will be terrible from the title, but the promise of nudity means you probably checked it out! Though if you are expecting naked bodies, it is all hidden by a blur.
Naked men and women are set up on a series of blind dates in exotic locations. The audience must endure the awkwardness of to nude people participating in various escapades.
There’s Something About Miriam – Sky One
Nothing like a bit of controversy! This completely non-politically correct reality TV show got into a lot of trouble. The participants even filed a law suit!
Sexy Miriam was transgender, but this was unbeknownst to the male contestants. They were under the impression it was a regular dating show. The false pretenses of Miriam brought up accusations of sexual assault and defamation.
Cheaters – The CW Plus
There have been accusations of the staging of certain scenes. But still, who wants to get cheap entertainment out of other people’s pain and heartbreak?
Splash! – Eyeworks USA
Even hearing about what this reality TV show is about will make you want to yawn. But for some reason, it gained international popularity, with different countries creating versions.
The show entailed celebrities diving into water. They would train to do increasingly more challenging dives for each episode.
Are You Hot? – ABC
A genius did not conceive this reality program for intelligent viewers. It is a talent program for people who have no talent but the shape of their body.
Contestants would file past judges evaluating their “hotness.” Yes, – that was it.
Playing It Straight – FOX
Another slightly politically incorrect reality TV show. However, this time the female star knew what her challenge was.
Half of a group of male contestants were gay. The female star had to eliminate a contestant week by week. If she picked a straight dude, in the end, they got to split some cash. If he turned out gay, he kept all the money.
Man Vs Beast – FOX
This awful reality TV show was completely unethical. Critics and animal rights groups were up in arms when it aired and demanded it’s axing.
Humans and animals competed in ridiculous competitions. These ranged between hot dog eating, sprint races, and obstacle courses.
Sex Box – WE TV
The British being tight lipped and prudish is clearly a stereotype. This show broke all the boundaries while simultaneously being utterly dull.
Under the guise of improving the sex-lives of Brits, a couple had sex live on air, but in a box. While they did the deed, the presenters discussed the pair’s relationship.
Bridalplasty – E!
The creators of this reality TV show clearly tried to mash together two favorite genres. Brides, and plastic surgery.
Women competed for plastic surgery they wanted, to win their dream wedding. Essentially, the aim of the show was to experience the slice of a knife.
My Super Sweet 16 – MTV
Whiny spoiled teenagers are the most irritating people on earth. What a ridiculous idea to create a TV show about them.
The winner was the teen that could whine the greatest. The prize? A BMW worth $200,000.
Ex On the Beach – MTV
People love a good cat fight. So the creators of this cringe-worthy TV show believed they were onto a winner.
A group of singles traveled to an exotic location to find love. But the dramatic catch entailed their exes also being part of the team. Feisty.
The Briefcase – CBS
As TV shows go, this must be one of the cruelest created. Deservedly, critics and viewers widely criticized the program. It caused contestants to become physically ill from the stress.
Impoverished families received a briefcase containing $101,000. They could keep it all, or give it to another family who was in equal poverty to them. What they didn’t realize is that the other family faced the same dilemma.
Temptation Island – FOX
Controversy for ratings is a very common tactic used by TV show creators. This program was no exception.
Couples tested the strength of their relationships by vacationing in separate exotic locations. A group of women vacationed with several male models. Likewise, their male partners with female models.
The Swan – FOX
This terrible reality TV show was as cruel as it was dumb. Several women had to endure a judging session to ascertain how ugly they were.
If considered ugly enough, they received extreme makeovers. These entailed visiting dentists, cosmetic surgeons, and personal trainers.
You could almost lose your faith in humanity.
